Welcome to Freshman Honors English! I am excited to work with your student and know it will be a wonderful year!
Our class will be using a variety of digital technology websites and apps to track student progress in all classes (PowerSchool), communicate and collaborate with myself and classmates (Blackboard) , and make use of online tools that will help your student create amazing projects and presentations (Glogster, for one). Please see my "Classroom Web Resources" for a list of websites we will be using as well as detailed information about them and links to check them out. I think they're all great and we will be very successful in creating a highly tech savvy classroom!
Because our students are being "brought up" in a digital age there will be many lessons on digital responsibility, online safety, and privacy. All websites we use will be private and students will not be allowed to provide identifying information to any sources outside of the safe sites we will be using. The first week of school we will have a school counselor in the classroom to teach digital citizenship and we will revisit the topic often.
We will be using the site Digital Bytes to explore and influence the digital world in which our students live, digitalresponsibility.org to educate and navigate safety and responsibility in our technological world, and Cyber-Safety - ikeepsake as a resource for classroom lessons and parent involvement. On their website's "About Us" link you will find the following information describing their mission and the tools they use to ensure the cyber safety of our kids:
